Arkady Shaikhet. 1932–1941 Photography
Parades, factories and fields get their due in these ceremonial pictures of Soviet life by an avant-garde master of photography.
In the 1930s this masterful Soviet photojournalist worked across the entire country, from Khabarovsk to Vladivostok, Simferopol, Kharkhov, Baku and Dnepropetrovsk. Monumental construction projects, the launch of aircraft, factories, fields, the naval fleet – the avant-garde school saved Shaikhet from being completely swallowed up by official culture.
