Gerhard Richter. Abstraction and Appearance

"Incomprehensible" abstract art emerged in the 20th century, when many events truly were beyond human comprehension.

This is Richter's first solo show in Russia, featuring abstract works and, as their focal point, the "Birkenau" installation. Richter believes that only the language of abstraction can convey what was seen and experienced by the inhabitants of the concentration camps.
