Manifesta, a mobile biennale of contemporary art, has arrived in Zurich and is under the direction of curator Christian Jankowski. Thirty artists, including Michel Houellebecq, Maurizio Cattelan and Evgeny Antufiyev, have gone to great lengths to answer the question animating the main project: What are people willing to do for money? The historical section includes over 100 artists, such as Andrey Tarkovsky, Olga Chernysheva and Alexander Shein.
and the creator of masterful installations. It features paintings, assemblages and drawings by Kienholz and his wife, Nancy Reddin, who began working with him in 1972. Their expressive works shocked the world, such as the piece that lends its name to the show and depicts five white men castrating a black man.
