Anselm Kiefer
A titan of Germany’s postwar art scene grapples with his Teutonic demons.
Nazism, the Holocaust, the tragedy of the German soul, pain, destruction and dislocation are the perennial themes in works by Kiefer, who seeks truth in myths, poetry, philosophy and music. It is his largest show in France in 30 years. The 150 pieces includes watercolors, graphical albums, installations, and monumental, multilayered canvases that incorporate withered grass, dirt, lead and ashes.
