When the world falls apart before your eyes, Romantic art becomes particularly appealing.
Emerging at the end of the 18th century in antithesis to classicism and the Enlightenment, romanticism affirmed the value of all that is individual, natural, passionate and inspired. None of this has lost its appeal, especially when the practitioners are on the order of Caspar David Friedrich, Karl Blechen and Francisco de Goya.
