Neue Galerie: The Black Years. Histories of a Collection: 1933–1945

"Degenerate" and official art under one roof.

The show brings together examples of "official" and "degenerate" art created, obtained or requisitioned during the Nazi years. Artists include Pablo Picasso, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Otto Dix and Käthe Kollwitz. Some 15 works by Italian artists - Giorgio de Chirico, Carlo Carrà, Mario Sironi and others – open the exhibition, having found their way into the collection as a result of an exchange between Hitler and Mussolini.
